The QED Consulting Bio-Entrepreneur School aims to identify, encourage and nurture people who are interested in learning more about commercialisation and potentially starting and growing a business in the lifescience, bioscience and biotechnology sector.
The School will support your intrapreneurial or entrepreneurial career in this fast growing marketplace by taking you through an intense three-day programme delivered by seasoned entrepreneurs and business consultants.
The School, built on the success of our 2007 and 2008 Bio-Entrepreneur Schools will be hosted by the prestigious BioCity in the heart of Nottingham.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The QED Consulting Bio-Entrepreneur School is open to anyone who is interested in commercialisation and in developing their business understanding and entrepreneurial skills. It will be particularly relevant if you consider yourself to be at the start of your entrepreneurial career and you are currently any of the following:
- Recent graduate or post-doc
- Academic Researcher
- Someone working in industry, including pharma
- Someone working in a small business
It is ideal for people who:
- Are planning to commercialise their bio-related idea.
- Have just started a business in the sector .
- Work in the sector and are looking for professional development.
The School supports your goals by taking you through an intense three-day programme, developing the business skills and confidence that will help you reach your potential in this rapidly expanding sector.
WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE SCHOOL?
The School aims to support entry of new bio-entrepreneurs into the sector. With a particular focus on the Life Science sector including healthcare, agricultural, environmental, industrial, and marine biotechnology as well as bio-nanotechnology and bio-pharmaceuticals we will help you to capitalise on your entrepreneurial talent, help you explore a commercial route to market and consider strategies and methodologies in a practical hands on way.
In addition to developing your enterprise and entrepreneurial skills the School will also provide numerous opportunities for you to network with existing entrepreneurs, investors, and specialist accountants and lawyers involved in the sector, thus enabling you to lay sound foundations for a successful career.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
The School will be run over three full days, starting at 9.00 and finishing early evening. Each day will focus on a different aspect of how successful entrepreneurs go about starting and growing their business. You will develop skills around the different aspects of commercialising IP and growing a business through:
- Practical Exercises
- Workshops
- Opportunities for sharing ideas with other like-minded delegates
WHEN AND WHERE?
The School will run from the 10th to 12th March 2009 and will be held at the prestigious BioCity Nottingham. Accommodation is available at nearby hotels and we have negotiated special rates at Jury’s Inn Hotel for those selected to participate.

All elements of the School, including handouts and toolkits are funded by East Midlands Development Agency through the Greater Nottingham Partnership. Venue, meals and refreshments are covered by our generous sponsors and the only cost to you will be the accommodation from Monday evening 9th to Wednesday evening 11th February.
Employed in industry, including Pharma?
We are offering up to 5 places at a cost of £1995 plus VAT for people from industry and long established businesses to help you prepare for more enterprise and entrepreneurial activity.
